Ok, so before I post anymore tips, I have to share this cool little guide with you guys which details exactly how to get rid of stink bugs quickly and efficiently with step-by-step instructions!  I had found certain tips online that were of help to me but it wasn’t until I found this that I had COMPLETELY gotten rid of the problem.  It’s a guide by Bill Campbell called “Stink Bug Control – Secrets Revealed.”  (and it is awesome!)

Below I am going to give you my honest opinion of the guide and even highlight the shortcomings of the guide but show you how it can be supplemented with other information to give you the perfect tool to fight these insects!!   In no time you will discover all the secret tips, tricks, and methods on how to get rid of stink bugs in your home!

The biggest problem I had with finding information online (which is full of tons of knowledge) is that it was all so spread out and sparse!  I’d find good little tidbits but no definitive guide that detailed for me step-by-step how to get rid of my stink bug problem.   All I wanted was an effective way to do it.  I didn’t really care about the different types of stink bugs or learning about their anatomy.  I just wanted to get rid of them once and for all!  It was then when I was actually searching on a web message board about pest control and I found someone who was raving about Bill’s guide.  They said how much it had helped them get rid of stink bugs in their home permanently which even the exterminators hadn’t been able to do.

Of course I got excited!!  I needed this to end!

So I got Bill’s guide and started reading it immediately!  I followed the instructions and voila….stink bugs gone after just a few short weeks!  More importantly, I haven’t seen any stink bugs since (my neighbors still do however haha).  So what are the highlights of this book?  I will tell you!

How to get rid of stink bugs in YOUR home too

• Chemical Free alternatives – The guide does have some great tested chemical solutions to rid the infestation but being a mother with little children running around, I’m always paranoid.  The guide includes 4 chemical free alternatives (which is what I used) and they work!  I would assume if you have pets this would be helpful as well.
• Trapping stink bugs -  I got tired of using paper towels to grab them and flush them down the toilet every time.   Not only would it be a pain (the second I’d come back another would be in it’s place) but my hands and/or house would smell afterwards.  Bill includes some great homemade traps in his guide that you can make at no cost.
• Prevent stink bugs from returning - Perhaps the most valuable thing is that the guide tells you exactly how to keep the bugs from coming back!  Hiring an exterminator might get rid of them for a week or two but they will likely come back….not anymore!
• Easy to use and saves you money! -  The two most valuable commodities nowadays are time and money.  With this guide I saved time researching what to do and just followed the instructions laid out for me AND I save money on pricey exterminators!

Some extra advice

• Biting - One of the biggest concerns I had was the bugs biting my kids (or my kids eating them see below).  The one thing this guide is lacking is any discussion of that topic.  But I guess since it is a guide for how to get rid of stink bugs, it obviously wouldn’t waste time telling you the harms of them.  Some links that are helpful I found here should be all you need to know about this issue:

• Exterminators -  I also got the sense from the guide that Bill had some beef with exterminators.  Maybe his ex-wife was one or something haha but I couldn’t believe how he swore against them.  I did have a bad experience with an exterminator and a squirrel in my house before (that’s a story for another day) but I’m sure if you wanted to be extra cautious and expedite the process, you could follow the prevention techniques in this guide AND get an exterminator to come in and clean house for you!  That’s if you want to be extra mean to those nasty stink bugs!

How to Get Rid of Stink Bugs

Another popular method that can address many of the problems you may be having with your stink bugs is using a vacuum cleaner on your pests both living and dead.  As you may know, if you startle a stink bug, they can release a nasty liquid that smells and can stain your walls.  Using a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment (a shop vac is a really good option) will quickly remove them easily without any mess.  This is also a very good choice for cleaning up the dead carcasses of stink bugs on your window sills and elsewhere in your home.

If you really want to know how to get rid of stink bugs, I can tell you that if you just use this method, they will keep coming back.  This is just a tip that I know saved me tons of time and aggravation when trying to dispose of the stink bugs both when I still had an infestation and when I was able to kill them off  using various means.

One of the biggest stink bug control tips that helped me to get rid of them was a defense technique.  I typically found stink bugs appearing around my windows and I would constantly inspect the windows and not be able to find any holes.  It drove me crazy because I couldn’t figure out how the heck they were getting in!  At this point it wasn’t even about how I could get rid of the stink bugs but how I could prevent more from entering once I did.

Little did I know, as most of you might not, there are tiny holes that span between your windows and at the base of your walls.  During the summertime, the stink bugs are outside so if this is the case, you should seal up and cracks or holes on the outside of your house with silicone sealant/caulking.  If it’s not summer, there are most definitely stink bugs or even stink bug eggs inside your walls.  This is when you need to do some interior sealing.  One of the biggsest spots is around window frames.  It may not look like it, but stink bugs can get through some pretty tight spaces.  Also try around ceiling fixtures and door frames.  This is a definite sure-fire way to make sure the stink bugs can’t get back in, not to mention it keeps out other pests as well.  Even if you use repellant methods, this is a good way to be extra safe and keep them out!

I think it’s important for you all to know my story so I’m going to take you back a little over two years ago before I even started this site on how to get rid of stink bugs, before I even knew stink bugs could exist in such quantities in a house and be so darn annoying! I’m sure if you are reading this, you have found this site in your frantic search for tips on stink bug control and believe me, I was in your shoes not too long ago! I had the exact same problem as you so in an effort to save countless others the headache, I made this website to help relay the information I discovered.

But first, my story…

My husband Chris and I got married 8 years ago. We had rented apartments together until our first child Taylor came along in 2005 and she was such a blessing. We had been fortunate enough at that point to find a (stink bug free) fairly new townhome for rent near Chris’s work. Rent was reasonable, location was perfect, we were happy! But another 2 years went by and I got pregnant again with my son Shane. Along with the space issue we were facing along with our desire to own a house we began the search. Long story short, we found a beautiful house that we were happy with that was within our price range! We couldn’t wait to move in, both Chris and I had dreamed of this moment forever.

We moved into our home in the Summer of 2009 and we immediately spotted those brown carcasses all over the window sills. That’s right…stink bugs! We weren’t sure what to think at the time, we hadn’t had experiences with these bugs before, in fact we didn’t even know what they were at first. And as I’m sure all of you are familiar with at this point, we couldn’t figure out where the heck they were coming from! They would just appear without any explanation or reason as to where they were coming in at. Frustration set in and around September or so I about had it. I can happily say that my home has been stink bug free for almost a year! I can’t tell you how good it feels to not only not have to worry about those critters anymore but to know that I did it all on my own without springing for an exterminator! (Even my husband couldn’t believe it)

It was then when one day I was changing Shane and Taylor came running up to me and handed me a DEAD STINK BUG that was half eaten! That’s right, she had decided that the stink bugs looked appetizing to her and took a big old bite! Obviously being disgusted she returned the remains to me as she typically does with green vegetables. I was appalled and fed up! While I’m not one to be grossed out but such bugs, it was the combination of this incident along with months of annoyance that I knew I had to do something.

That’s when I set out to find out once and for all how to get rid of stink bugs in my home! I searched the web for advice and bought several products, I was determined to put an end to this. After about 9 months I had finally tried just about everything and was able to get the stink bug situation under control after following some very good advice in a guide I had found.  I can happily say that my home has been stink bug free for almost a year!
